Decide what the click should do
Choose the exact page, not just the website home page, when the campaign promises a specific item or resource. Open that address yourself first.
Custom aliases, UTM parameters and statistics history depend on your account. Check your plan if an option is unavailable.
01 / Create
Set the two addresses
- Open Create a new link.
- Paste the full address into Destination URL.
- In Short URL, enter an available alias if your account supports it. Leave it empty for a generated alias. If a domain selector is available, choose the domain you intend to keep using.
- Keep Link is active switched on. Leave optional settings unchanged unless your campaign needs them.
- Select Create. Keep the resulting short URL for sharing.
The quick-create dialog uses different wording.
From the short-links list, the Shorten URL dialog calls the destination Long URL. It performs the same basic job. Its submit button is also Shorten URL.
02 / Add context
Use campaign names consistently
Open the saved link’s settings and expand UTM Parameters, if enabled for your account. Fill in Source, Medium and Campaign.
- Source
- newsletter
- Medium
- Campaign
- new_collection
Example values for a newsletter campaign.
Review UTM preview, then select Update. These query parameters are appended to the destination. They help identify campaigns in compatible analytics; adding them does not automatically install analytics on the destination website.
03 / Test
Follow the route as a visitor
- Copy the saved short URL using the copy control next to the link.
- Open it in another browser tab. Confirm the final page, not just that a page loaded.
- For a public campaign, check that the destination can be accessed without your account’s private permissions.
- If you added UTM values, verify that the destination address contains the expected campaign parameters.
- Share the short URL in the campaign.
If the link is protected, scheduled or expired, the visitor may get a different result. Only use those settings intentionally.
04 / Maintain
Keep the address. Improve the destination.
To change the target later, edit Destination URL and select Update. Keep the short alias and domain unchanged so previously shared links remain consistent.
Open Statistics from the link’s actions to review recorded activity. Available history depends on the account. Interpret visits as link activity, not confirmed sales or unique customers.
My preferred alias is unavailable.
Choose a different alias or leave the field empty for a generated one. Do not reuse an unrelated working campaign address just to make the name shorter.
The link does not reach the intended page.
Check Destination URL, Link is active, scheduling, protection and expiration settings. Then open the destination directly. A problem on the destination website cannot be corrected by shortening its URL.
Can this link become a QR code?
Yes. In the QR editor, choose URL, enable Dynamic QR code and Select from pre-existing links, then select this link. Follow the full QR guide.
